Farmstead Update

It’s too hot!

The last couple of weeks it’s just been way too hot outside. It’s been in the lower to upper 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Yikes! It makes me sick. I broke down and bought an air conditioner and I spend my days in front of it when I’m not at work.

The garden is overrun with weeds but the vegetables are growing. We finally got a good rainfall last night and that helped them out.

I wanted a raised bed garden to help with controlling the weeds and so that I could work the garden myself; but since we just moved here in February, it couldn’t be done with everything else.

When we moved here the vines on the fence below were ugly as hell and I wanted them down. My husband didn’t get to it and now I’m glad because it’s alive. I swear they were dead vines. So that is unexpected.

I missed last week’s update. I don’t think there was much to report except I had 4 days off from work and it felt wonderful. I didn’t accomplish all I wanted but I did get some things done.

On the Fourth of July, we had a cookout here with my 2 daughters, their husbands, and all 7 grandkids. It was nice. We had our own fireworks and the grass caught on fire.  Ooops!!

We’ll see what kind of farmers we become. We are lazy so far. Next year we plan on bringing in animals. Chickens first and then pigs.

Remember this year is a learning experience for us. We don’t know what to expect here.
